Divorce, job loss, illness, sexual or emotional abuse, drug or alcohol addiction, a death in the family, or any other life event can lead to the desire to start over.
No life is perfect. As humans, we make mistakes. Put another way, there is no shame in admitting you’re having difficulties.
Then it’s up to you to take ownership of your problems and make the necessary alterations in your life.
How Do I Start Over When I Have Nothing?
The following are seven methods on how to start over in life from scratch:
1. Accept Reality
Accepting your current situation is key to making progress. Be completely honest with yourself at this time.
Feelings and sensations can help you start over. Because you’ve kept them hidden for so long, confronting them can be difficult. Trying to ignore them only makes them more pronounced.
When you allow yourself to feel your intense pain, you may find that practicing yoga or meditating helps you stay present. There is less control over you if you allow yourself to handle them.
At this difficult time, journaling could be a great way to get your thoughts out of your head.
Focus on the positive and be grateful. The gift of life, enough food, clothing, and companionship are a few examples that come to mind. When you’re thankful, you can’t help but be happy.
Spend your fulfilling life gratefully.
2. Embrace Change
Completely change is a constant in life. You can’t stop change no matter how hard you try. When you allow yourself to adapt, you’ll be happier.
Time to move on from the past. Set your mind to discovering and appreciating your many talents and gifts.

To make a fundamental change in your life, you need the support and encouragement of others. It doesn’t matter if your mentor is a family member, a close friend, or a professional.
Counselors and coaches can help you stay on track in your quest for a better life.
Find a mentor to help you discover your motivations. Stay away from anyone who tells you what you should or shouldn’t be doing. Starting over in life with nothing is a question you’ll begin to address.

When you’re aware of yourself and the world around you, you’ll be able to handle change more gracefully.
