What AM I Doing With My Life? An All-Too-Common Question

What can I do with my life

What am I doing with my life? that’s ok if you don’t have all the answers.

You may wake up one day to find yourself in a situation you despise, be it a job you dislike or a relationship you hate. You may be depressed, frustrated, ashamed, or regretful right now. When you were younger, this wasn’t where you wanted to be in your life; it wasn’t what you wanted to do.

You may wake up and realize that you want something more, a more flexible job, meaningful life, something new, and something different. You’ve probably achieved much of what you set out to do in life, and now you’re wondering what’s next.

How Do I Figure Out What To Do With My Life?

Feel overwhelmed to spend money

Honesty is the best policy. The things that bring you happiness and contentment should be written down on a list. After that, make a separate list of the items you want to improve in your life for personal development. Consider the following:

  • Do you get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet, and engage in regular physical activity?
  • Toxic vs. uplifting relationships in your circle of friends and acquaintances.
  • A new job or a new career path: Are you contemplating a change of career?
  • Do you have a daily routine that allows you to do what you enjoy? Do you overextend yourself?

1. What Are Your Sources Of Motivation?

Having your basic needs met isn’t enough to lead a fulfilling life. All of us, deep down, yearn for a sense of inspiration. That could be in our work, the people we help, or hobbies.

  • Either you have a slew of concepts, or you don’t. Make a list of the following things to help you discover your life’s calling.
  • What would you do if you had the opportunity to work in your ideal position?
  • Is there anything that piques your interest?
  • If you had limitless time and resources, what would you do?

2. Is There Anything You’ve Always Wanted To Accomplish In Your Life?

You may already have a clue of what your life’s purpose is. Was there a hobby or interest you once pursued but had to put on hold due to other commitments?

To reclaim your sense of wholeness, you may have to make contact with that aspect of your identity.

Let’s dig a little deeper into this. Consider the current state of your professional life. What do you need to do before this?

3. What Is The Purpose Of Your Actions?

Is this job more like a calling or a means to an end?

Imagine yourself in a dream job as a life coach or starting your own business. Can you see yourself doing it?

Everyone has to come up with a way to make ends meet. Even if you hate your job, you can’t spend the rest of your life in it.

Work can be fulfilling and enjoyable if you let it be in the right direction. However, it may necessitate taking risks and asking the right questions to progress.

4. Describe A Typical Day In Your Life.

Even small tasks like writing for 20 minutes a day, practicing the guitar, or going for a brisk walk can be considered a form of self-care.

Over time, even the seemingly insignificant details can have a significant impact.

5. What Are Your Final Wishes?

Close your eyes and visualize yourself doing everything you’ve always dreamed of doing. Take some time to consider and record your aspirations.

To start, you might think of things like starting a business, having children, and relocating. You might consider taking on a new challenge, such as learning a new language or running a marathon.

Small things you don’t do for yourself may also be on your to-do list. You may need a vacation, a night out, a little soul searching, or a break from your daily routine to rekindle your adventurous spirit.

Sometimes a simple reset can give you a positive direction and the answers you need when you don’t know what you want out of life.

6. What Frightens You?

Sometimes, “I don’t know what to do with my life” can be interpreted as “I’ve been scared to pursue what I want.”

It’s normal to be afraid. Fear serves a purpose. A child’s fears can also result from limiting thinking during the formative years of development.

Bullies at school or home can make you feel unloved and undervalued. Because of these anxieties, we form negative thought patterns throughout our lives. Having them prevents us from taking risks and living outside our comfort zones.

Understanding your fears helps you distinguish between rational and irrational fears and beliefs that limit you. You’ll discover what frightens you (and for a good reason).

We are identifying what you’ve been avoiding and why will also become clear.

6. What Can I Do Today To Make A Small Difference?

Because I’m obsessed with inspiring others to take action, I’ve become passionate about it. Putting an idea into action is the best way to get things moving, discover more about yourself, and discover your true potential.

In that case, what’s one thing you can do right now? You can do a few things in thirty minutes to help you get closer to your goal.

Even though it’s difficult and you won’t find any inspiration initially, you must persevere. Over a month, spending 30 minutes a day equates to about 15 hours of study time. If you are successful, you will put in more time and effort.

To succeed, you must resist the temptation of immediate gratification and learn to appreciate the pleasures of delaying gratification.

Take a small step toward completing a task on your to-do list today.

Final Thoughts

As a reminder, don’t think about the things you’d like to have more of; instead, think about the things that can bring them to you, your life purpose. Because you become obsessed with what you lack rather than what you already have, focusing on what you want more of isn’t a proper alignment with your why.

Your reason for existing is both real and internal. You are invigorated by the direct experience of your why you can’t help but be energized. Suppose you allow your thoughts to linger on the lack of a clear “why,” you risk feeling deflated.

Consider all the positive actions you could take to get back in sync with your purpose.
